About Us
The Academy of Medical Professions is a licensed Proprietary School certified in Maine. This school began in 1996 in
Topsham, Maine as Transcription Associates, Inc. School of Medical Transcription
and is still certified by the Maine State Department of
Education and has
since established ourselves
with the Adult Education Systems in Maine with great success. We now
offer classes at the Adult Education Centers in York, Auburn,
Kittery, Brunswick,
Gray, and
Gardiner.
Based on this track record of success, we were proud to offer
complete correspondence courses that started in July 2001.
All our lectures are provided through streaming audio on our
web site, and an instructor is assigned to you for assistance
through the program as well as grading
of papers and
assigning
work. This allows those students who cannot
attend classes to
get the feel of the classroom participation.
In the past 10 years, we have achieved a 95% success rate
in
placing our graduates. Although we do not guarantee jobs, we
will teach how to get
them, where they are, what you can
expect for pay, what your resume
should look like, and will
forward
e-mails and phone calls to you as we hear
of jobs.

Dawn Johnson, Program Director/Instructor:
 I started as a student at the Academy of Medical Professions. I had been working in the restaurant
business for 20 years and wanted a change. I saw an advertisement in the local adult education flier
and liked the idea of working from home.
Upon completion of the course, I was immediately hired by Transcription Associates, Inc., the
sister company of the school, as a medical transcriptionist, and was later asked to teach a few
local
medical terminology/medical transcription classes. I eventually became program director
for the school.
I hold an associate's degree in accounting, a bachelor's in behavioral science, and a certificate in
medical terminology and medical transcription. |
